Setting up your email in Outlook Express

The next in our series of ‘how to’s’ is Outlook Express. Hopefully this will help you set-up your email address correctly.
1. Firstly open Outlook Express this can be done via the Start button.

2. If asked whether you’d like to open this particular account automatically every time you start Outlook Express, click Yes (if you do) or No (if you don’t).
If you don’t want to be asked this question again, click to check the Always perform this check… box.
3. Check When Outlook Express starts, go directly to my Inbox.
Outlook Express directs all incoming mail to the Inbox, so it makes sense to bypass this opening page.
If you don’t see the list of folders and contacts on the left, click Layout on the View menu. Click Contacts and Folder List to check them, and then click OK.
4. Open Accounts by selecting the Tools menu, and clicking Accounts.

5. Select the mail tab along the top of the open window if it isn’t already selected.
6. Next select add and mail.
7. Enter a Display name, this will just let you know what email address this is. Then click next.

8. Next enter your email address eg. yourname@yourdomain.com and click next.
9. Make sure POP3 is selected from the drop-down menu, then enter you incoming mail server.
This can be a number of different combinations, please check with your hosting company.
If you are using Method or Simple Servers it will be mail.yourdomain.co.uk.
Your Outgoing mail server should follow the same format, unless you are using your ISP (BT, SKY) to send mail through, in which case you may need to contact them for these details.

10. Enter your Account name, this can be you user-name, or your email address. If you are using Method or Simple Servers enter your email address.
Then enter your supplied password and make sure the Remember password box is ticked.

11. Thats it, click Send and Receive and you should (hopefully) have set-up your email account.
You may however need to set authentication on your outgoing mail. To do this select you new account and click Properties.

12. When the properties window pops up, select the Servers tab.

13. At the bottom check the My server requires authentication, and click Settings.

14. With-in the settings window, if you are using Method or Simple Servers check Use same settings as my incoming mail server, Other-wise if you are using you ISP to send mail through, select Log on using, and enter the details supplied by youy ISP below.
Click ok, and your done.
